TRACK A
THE EUROPEAN PRODUCTS (AND SERVICES) OF THE FUTURE
As global economic dynamics shift, Europe stands at a pivotal juncture, aiming to shape its distinctive identity in the realm of future products and services. This session dives into the essential characteristics of the forthcoming European products and services, drawing insights from trends rooted in European values as well as global megatrends, with a special emphasis on key value chains and strategic positioning.
Historically, Europe has championed sectors ranging from aerospace and automotive to luxury fashion, pharmaceuticals to machinery. However, almost all Europe’s value chains are being challenged by ambitious climate targets as set by the European Green Deal, high energy costs, aging workforce, protectionist policies, political uncertainties, supply chain vulnerabilities and limited access to critical materials such as rare earth elements. It is imperative for Europe to sustain these value chains by integrating advanced technologies, sustainable and circular economy practices, and innovative business models. Europe’s emphasis on digital innovation and integration, including AI, AR, VR, and IoT, will redefine the user experience of its products and services. As global players accelerate their effort with competitive pricing, rapid scalability, and technological skills, Europe needs to work on its strengths: high quality, deep-rooted craftsmanship, innovation and regulations related to ethical production and compliance, reflective of the continent’s commitment to consumer rights.

TRACK B
THE ENERGY CHALLENGE FOR MANUFACTURING
Depending on secure and reliable energy-supply at an affordable cost and being one of the biggest consumers of energy, manufacturing is challenged by the energy transition in several ways: the increase of energy cost, the need to approach carbon-neutrality, to increase transparency about CO2-footprint along the supply chain, the increasing diversity of energy sources (wind, solar, hydrogen, etc.) and to become resilient against energy shortages.
How to cope with these challenges will become a crucial competitive issue, both for companies, but also for manufacturing regions.
Key issues:
- Towards more energy (and other resources) efficiency.
- Energy resilience (self-generation, industrial energy districts, direct incorporation of renewable energy sources into the manufacturing processes, …)
- Alternative clean and competitive energy sources for industry (electric, hydrogen, small modular reactors …)
- Energy smart grids: the role of industry.
- The CO2 challenge (Net Zero Challenge)
- Key supporting technologies for these challenges

SOCIAL DINNER
MUKA, “ashes from the fire” in the Iparralde dialect of Basque language, is an invitation to explore fire in all its forms: ember, flame, hot coals, smoke, ash…
An experience that makes it possible to experience fire using all the senses, from the gastronomic proposal to the space itself, which has an enormous charcoal grill used to prepare most of the dishes on the menu. The dishes, designed for sharing, can also be enjoyed outside, on a spectacular terrace overlooking the mouth of the Urumea River.
